It seems like an age since we previewed the Albany Ama diver watch, but it is now live on Kickstarter and achieved its funding goal within one hour!
Coming to Kickstarter – Albany Ama Diver
The idea behind the Albany watch company is that each of their watches is inspired by a story, tradition, or hero of the sea. These tales are known as “Stories from the Sea,” and they are delivered to subscribers’ inboxes every few weeks along with updates on the watches.
Ama Dive Watch from Albany
The Ama dive watch is inspired by a Japanese pearl diving tradition with the same name. It will use the Miyota 9039 movement which is a very good Japanese-made choice. Depth resistance will be 300m, which is sufficient for serious use without having to be so thick it is uncomfortable to wear!

First Impressions
Unfortunately, Albany could not get a review watch to us in time for the campaign so we can only offer first impressions based on the photos we have seen and the specifications. We think the Ama has real promise: everything looks to be right on point with what we like in a diver’s watch. The switch from an STP movement to Miyota helps keep the price down to a very reasonable £250 (early bird price). The packaging also sounds interesting: a bamboo box and waxed canvas watch roll are to be supplied.
