WishDoIt skeleton watch review

A second review from the Chinese watch brand with a slightly underwhelming name: Is the WishDoIt skeleton watch a genie in a lamp or a curse?

WishDoIt Skeleton Watch Review

The last WishDoIt watch I reviewed (the WishDoIt GT Skeleton Chrono) showed promise but ultimately fell at the last hurdle with questionable branding, a mineral crystal and an underwhelming quartz movement. The brand sent me a second watch so I could see whether the watches represent better value at a lower price point.

At a glance

WishDoIt Skeleton Watch

Price £207
Case size 42mm x 50mm
Thickness 15.7mm
Water Resistance 5 ATM
Movement Citizen Miyota 2035 Quartz

The presentation is surprisingly good with a double-unfolding card box containing the watch and a cleaning cloth, together with the usual manual and warranty card.

Case and Movement

The tonneau case of the WishDoIt skeleton watch is big: 42mm x 50mm and wears even bigger thanks to the thickness of 15.7mm. Too thick for a quartz watch, in my opinion, and therefore it sits somewhat uncomfortably high on the wrist. This makes it burdensome over a full day’s wear. The finish is… fine. I’ve seen better at this price and below, but the designers did a decent job of hiding the quartz movement. Some might baulk at the fake cogs and wheels but this is a fashion watch and – as such – it looks just fine to me.

The crown is big and chunky with some attractive detailing. The downside is another mineral crystal. Even at this lower price I expect to see sapphire in a serious watch, and this is one area that WishDoIt could make a quick, cost-effective improvement.

Dial and Hands

The skeletonised dial actually looks pretty good (I’m not a fan of the style, usually) with enough little details to make the WishDoIt skeleton watch look more expensive than it really is.  The downside, as ever, with a skeleton dial comes with legibility. This is not an easy watch to read, and the absence of lume means that there are no conditions under which you can quickly glance the time.

The hands do have some nice splashes of colour, and overall I do think this watch looks pretty good. I’m still not sure about the WishDoIt brand name but I can see why people might buy this watch.

Strap and Buckle

The fluorine rubber strap on the WiashDoIt Skeleton watch is superb. It is soft, supple and comfortable to wear. It is very easy to find the right fit and I really like the deep red colour. The buckle is less impressive, with some rough brushing, but it does the job.

WishDoIt Skeleton Watch – Video Review

What I Liked… and What I Didn’t Like

þ Superb strap
þ The designers hid the quartz movement well
þ The watch is decent looking considering it’s a style I wouldn’t normally go for
ý Finishing could be better
ý Legibility suffers due to the skeletonised design
ý Really ought to have a sapphire crystal

WishDoIt Skeleton Watch – The WRUK Verdict

Overall, the WishDoIt skeleton watch is an improvement over the previous watch I reviewed but the finishing is not quite as good as the GT Chrono and the price is still a touch high for a quartz fashion watch. I really like the strap, though and would love to see the brand’s attempts with a decent mechanical movement. Perhaps then they could challenge CIGA Design for the best Chinese watch designer’s crown?
