One of the most popular watches on this website is the Seagull 1963 chronograph, so it’s surprising we don’t see more similar watches. Other than the EMG DL63 we haven’t seen many ST19-powered hand-wound chronographs. Until now: Introducing the Monsieur Ranomo.

Coming to Kickstarter – Monsieur Ranomo

The Monsieur Ranomo Vintage Chronograph is coming to Kickstarter in the near future in Panda and Reverse Panda Limited Editions. As well as the mechanical option (from US$369 they are also making a quartz version starting at US$199). Monsieur Watches aim to deliver Kickstarter preorders in December 2019

This is the second Kickstarter campaign from Monsieur Watches, whose first model – the Alliage series, was successful back in 2017. Ranomo is a contraction of “racing mono tones” and it certainly looks promising. The watch is housed in a 38mm stainless steel case with a K1 sapphire-coated domed crystal rather than the more common acrylic that is used on vintage-style watches.

The people behind the brand are Singaporean entrepreneurs Calvin Kang and Seamus See. “There is a movement embracing personalisation of one’s identity and the culture of owning unique handcrafted timepieces, going out of the norm” said Calvin. For Seamus, being a watch collector and enthusiast, “I have always been drawn to watches that are uniquely designed and beautifully crafted. The market today has been flooded with many watch brands that are inflated in price due to markups by wholesalers and retailers. I want to create a watch that appeals and is very affordable”

We’ve been promised the loan of a review sample when the prototypes are ready so keep your eyes peeled for a hands-on review to see how it compares with WRUK’s favourite, the Seagull 1963.

  1. I appreciate the review, I read it before I purchased a mechanical Ranomo! It is an attractive watch, but if you’re thinking about buying one while reading this article, DON’T. After a couple weeks of normal wear two hands fell off my Ranomo and Monsieur refused to repair or refund the watch because it wasn’t a “movement problem”.

If, like me, you’re thinking the watch might be worth it just for the looks, it’s not. A watch with no hands is worthless.

    1. Wow, thats not very good QC. Also, aren the laws preventing this? I mean for the money a product has to have a decent standard. A 50 dollar watch isn’t supposed to last 5 years but this watch for a few 100 must be. And if the hands fall off after a day, that isn’t really 5 years
