Introducing the Spinnaker Tesei Bronze

Spinnaker Tesei Bronze

We do like bronze watches at WRUK, and that’s why this new watch caught our eye: the Spinnaker Tesei Bronze.

Introducing the Spinnaker Tesei Bronze

Teseo Tesei was an Italian naval officer who invented the human torpedo used by the Italian Navy during WW2. For reasons that are not 100% clear, Spinnaker has developed a series of watches bearing his name. What is important is that this bronze edition is the first Spinnaker timepiece to be hand assembled in Switzerland rather than China. The brand has always had nice designs, but their Chinese origins have put off some potential purchasers.

The Spinnaker Tesei Bronze – Specifications

The watch’s 43 mm diameter case is forged out of a chunk of solid Bronze with a convex scratch-resistant sapphire lens on the front and an exhibition case back. To attain an impressive 300m water resistance, the watch features a screw down crown and caseback. The 120-click bezel is made of highly scratch-resistant ceramic. The dial has applied indices inset with vintage coloured Swiss Super-Luminova, as are the pencil-shaped hands. The leather straps are Italian made and water-resistant and the whole thing is assembled in Switzerland for that Swiss authenticity we all love. Under the hood? A Sellita SW-200, which is a highly-rated clone of the ETA 2824.

First Impressions of the Spinnaker Tesei Bronze

We think this watch looks great, and it ticks all the boxes for an entry-level Swiss automatic. The asking price – USD $850 (a touch over £650) sounds high but is actually about right when you consider that Spinnaker is offering these for preorder at $599 (£460). We prefer transparent pricing, but the RRP is not far above the price of a Steinhart Ocean Bronze (£400) – and we prefer the look of the Spinnaker.
