Horology Deck Review

Something a little out of the ordinary this week, as WRUK takes a look at… a deck of wristwatch themed playing cards: the Horology Deck.

Horology Deck Review

The brainchild of a group of Norwegian wristwatch and poker enthusiasts known as “The Garden Party”, the Horology Deck combines both of those interests into a specially-themed, premium-quality deck of cards. Each card is uniquely designed, with a modern twist on the classic playing card feel. Every other numeral card includes a fact about the world of watches and clocks. There are three colours to choose from, along with the two special edition themed versions in my review.

What I Liked

The quality of the production on the Horology Deck is second to none: the unboxing experience is fantastic, and the feel of the cards is excellent. They are smooth but not too slippery and printed onto a thick textured card. I can certainly say that they are several steps above the playing cards I have used in the past with a premium feel. The designs are stunning, from the gilt art-deco tuck box down to the clever watch-based designs on the picture cards.

What I Didn’t Like

Negatives? Well, I found a couple of spelling errors on the cards, which I hope will be resolved in the final product (I was given two pre-production sample packs to keep). I also found it impossible to open the boxes without removing the seal sticker over the thumb indentation, which tore the boxes and made them look scruffy. If the Garden Party can fix those problems, they will have a product I could heartily recommend recommend.

Horology Deck – the WRUK Verdict

I think the Horology Deck would make a fantastic gift for a watch enthusiast, and so they get a thumbs up from me! It would not suit me to join the club of watch reviewers that heaps praise on products in spades, but this is a real diamond I can heartily recommend. In fact, I might even describe them as “Ace”!

Buy a Horology Deck

The early bird prices for the decks are €13 each or €36 for a pack of three. The link to the Kickstarter campaign is https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegardenparty/horology-deck
