The Diewald SeahorseThe Diewald Seahorse

Diewald’s Seahorse is another Kickstarter watch. This one was funded, and the company has a few left over which they are selling at the price of €189 delivered – that is less than £175 all in – which includes a watch, rubber strap, travel case, delivery and all your taxes!

Diewald Seahorse – Automatic Dive Watch for under £175!

Diewald aim to offer a custom-designed, high-quality dive watch that is genuinely affordable. We think that with the Seahorse they achieved their vision of a modern dive watch with a vintage touch. The watch has a “sandwich” dial, with large, triangular, recessed luminescent markers and a slimline case design that looks chunky and easy-to-wear all at once. Have Diewald come up with a true beach to boardroom diver’s watch?

Under the hood is the Seiko NH35 movement. This low-beat (21,600 bph) movement is really popular in low-end microbrands as it offers a smoothly sweeping second hand at a really affordable price. Straps are offered in rubber, leather or perlon and the original run was available in a series of different dial colours.

First Thoughts on the Diewald Seahorse

We are a little disappointed that Diewald did not include a date window – which would have looked great at 6 O’clock with a partial cut-out of the marker – and a fitted bracelet option would have been even better. However we absolutely love the sandwich dial, the case shape and the drilled lugs – and think overall it looks stunning, especially at the price point.

Because Diewald are based in the EU (Austria), the price you see is what you pay with no added customs charges while Britain remains in the EU. The last few watches are being sold at €189, and you can add a second strap for €11 while stocks last. Email Diewald at info@diewald.watch to find out what stock is left, and how to buy. Don’t forget to tell them where you heard about it!
